How did we get our name?

How did you meet?
  • God’s intervention - Helen Rider, Margaret (Maggs) Terrell Williams, and Sue Olson were attending a canned ghost hunt at Old South Pittsburg Hospital in Old South Pittsburg TN. Helen from MS, Maggs from TN, and Sue from AL. This was the first ghost investigation for all 3 of us. Since we were not a ghost hunting team we were put in a group together for the night. But, even before we arrived at Old South Pittsburg Hospital for the investigation, we were all thrown together. When checking into the hotel for the night we arrived and checked in at the same time. We went out to eat and found we were eating at the same restaurant. We went shopping and found ourselves in the same stores, so yes it was God’s intervention into our lives bringing us together for a purpose.

How did you get your name?
  • During the investigation at Old South Pittsburg Hospital, we were in the basement sitting on a bench. While trying to communicate with entities, we all felt the bench give as if someone sat down beside Maggs (we always put her on the end during an investigation). We felt the bench give 2 more times before CRACK the bench broke! After screaming and moving into the center of the room quickly, we continued with the investigation the rest of the night. People started identifying us as “the broads who broke the bench”.  Therefore, to name our team was easy, The Bench Breaking Broads.

How did you form your team?
  • All of us enjoyed so many laughs and screams during our first investigation at Old South Pittsburg Hospital we decided to meet once a year and continue to do a canned hunt. We talked frequently during that year and watched ghost hunting shows, after our second investigation together we were hooked. We started going twice a year and when that was not enough we started going monthly and formed our own team. Today we have added two more female investigators. Even though we live in AL, MS, and TN we talk several times a day, investigate twice a month at either private residences or historical locations, and continue to enjoy each other company with many laughs and still an occasional scream.
