How did we get our name?

How did you meet?
  • God’s intervention - Helen Rider, Margaret (Maggs) Terrell Williams, and Sue Olson were attending a canned ghost hunt at Old South Pittsburg Hospital in Old South Pittsburg TN. Helen from MS, Maggs from TN, and Sue from AL. This was the first ghost investigation for all 3 of us. Since we were not a ghost hunting team we were put in a group together for the night. But, even before we arrived at Old South Pittsburg Hospital for the investigation, we were all thrown together. When checking into the hotel for the night we arrived and checked in at the same time. We went out to eat and found we were eating at the same restaurant. We went shopping and found ourselves in the same stores, so yes it was God’s intervention into our lives bringing us together for a purpose.

How did you get your name?
  • During the investigation at Old South Pittsburg Hospital, we were in the basement sitting on a bench. While trying to communicate with entities, we all felt the bench give as if someone sat down beside Maggs (we always put her on the end during an investigation). We felt the bench give 2 more times before CRACK the bench broke! After screaming and moving into the center of the room quickly, we continued with the investigation the rest of the night. People started identifying us as “the broads who broke the bench”.  Therefore, to name our team was easy, The Bench Breaking Broads.

How did you form your team?
  • All of us enjoyed so many laughs and screams during our first investigation at Old South Pittsburg Hospital we decided to meet once a year and continue to do a canned hunt. We talked frequently during that year and watched ghost hunting shows, after our second investigation together we were hooked. We started going twice a year and when that was not enough we started going monthly and formed our own team. Today we have added two more female investigators. Even though we live in AL, MS, and TN we talk several times a day, investigate twice a month at either private residences or historical locations, and continue to enjoy each other company with many laughs and still an occasional scream.

Maggs again, y'all!

So, we were recently interviewed for the awesome podcast Nightstalker with Joel Walling and Michael Smith.  I'm not sure when it will actually air, but I'll share the link as soon as I can.  That was super cool and we got to speak with them for about an hour.  Great guys.

We've been busy, even though you may not have seen many Facebook Live investigations.  We have done several investigations that wanted to remain anonymous, so we weren't able to post them.  We also slow down a little around the holidays, since you know, family and stuff.  :)

One place that we really enjoyed and have returned to before, and plan to go again, is the Chamber of Commerce in Wetumpka, AL.  We had a great investigation, with what we called a "Grand Finale".  All of the equipment was going off at the same time for about a full hour!  It was awesome!  However; Wetumpka was hit by a rare winter tornado on January 19, 2019.  If you are able, please donate to help them rebuild.  An entire Senior Center was devastated.  Here's the link:
https://www.facebook.com/crisisresponse/wetumpka-alabama-tornado-jan19-2019/about/?source=search.  Please, if you can, donate to help this wonderful town!

We'll be back at Buchanan Log House in the upcoming months, and it will hopefully be a public event.  We also are really excited to announce that we will be investigating Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary at the end of May.  We're excited for several reasons...but Helen & I's father, Steve Terrell, helped set up the pharmacy there way back in the day.  We both have old pharmacy coats that Dad would wear, and we hope these can be trigger objects when we visit.  If you've never heard of Brushy, it's located in Morgan County, TN (just outside of Oak Ridge, where we're from).  James Earl Ray was probably their most infamous inmate.

I believe that's about it for now.  Happy hunting!

  Hey y'all!

I have this on our events page, but wanted to put it here as well.  We have been selected to be a part of the 3rd Annual World's Largest Ghost Hunt!  Teams from across the country will be live investigating historic places.

We would love to have you join us if you can.  We'll be at one of our favorite places - Buchanan Log House in Nashville, TN.  If you can't join us (we're filling up fast - so please reserve your spot as soon as possible!), we will be broadcasting LIVE on Facebook.  Find us on Facebook at Bench Breaking Broads Ghost Hunters.  Please see our events page for more information or call me to reserve your spot.

We have been doing quite a few home investigations lately, so there's not a lot of updated information we can put out as they wish to remain anonymous.  However; we have gotten some VERY COOL EVP's and had some really strange experiences.  I hope to get the EVPs uploaded as soon as I can figure out how.

The one experience we want to share is this:
We were at a private home investigation, and Helen, Chris and I were outside on the front porch taking a break.  We all saw what we thought was a person, walking very...disjointedly at the neighbor's house, outside in the driveway.  The person then disappeared.  We walked by the front of the house, where all the lights were on, and never saw her again.  Then all the lights in the house went out.  According to that neighbor, no one was home at the time, nor did they see anything abnormal on their security camera.  It's hard to write exactly what we saw and sensed...I just don't have the words, but it was surreal at the very least.  UPDATE (8/14/18):  According to the homeowner that we were there to help, she spoke with the neighbor.  There was NO ONE at the neighbor's house at the time of the sighting.  However; the neighbor did say that there was a friend of their teenage daughter that has recently died, and they believe that she has visited their home.  Could this be who we saw?

Hope everyone is doing well.  Happy Hunting!
